WHO WE ARE:
Trainee Train Driver Info was created to help aspiring train driver applicants submit great application forms and pass the train driver psychometric tests and interviews.
Our Mission Is To Support You To Become A Train Driver Trainee
Want to Become a Train Driver? Trainee Train Driver Info is here to support you by providing information through articles, products and services on how to become one successfully. Our information is based on conversations and interviews with insider applicants who have actually taken the assessment and passed or failed.
Since we all approach tasks differently, we believe it is best to take advice from others who have passed: what tips, ideas and tricks they used and discovered while preparing for the assessment. We also report on advice from those who failed. In doing this, we identify what went wrong: compare and contrast with those who passed so you don’t make the same mistakes.
You may be aware that you only have two strikes at the Psychometric Test. That is, if you fail any part of the assessment process twice, you are out (though some have challenged this and have been given a third opportunity). Fail twice, and you may never be able to become a train driver in the UK, at least for the foreseeable future. I say foreseeable future because things are bound to change: driverless trains, driver and signal interface changes, smart trains, etc., can bring in new assessments.
In 1994, British Rail introduced psychometric tests for recruiting train drivers. In October 2013, a new set of assessments was introduced in pursuit of the modern safety-conscious train driver.
Well, this site has been created to help many people who are interested in becoming train driver trainees. Everybody in life has their own motivation for wanting to achieve their goals. Making the decision to become a train driver is something not to be taken lightly; it certainly is not a risk-taking job. And if you are a risk-taker, you can make far more money elsewhere than train driving.
Let’s put it this way: if you wouldn’t take risks or compromise on health and safety issues, then you have got your first check for the job. The shift work will have positive and negative consequences on your social and family life. If you are motivated by the money, that’s fine. It’s even better if you are motivated by getting paid for your hobby.
In my conversations with current train drivers: I found out that most are on the footplate for the dough. Well, it is all about economics and security. A few of them said that it was a childhood dream. Also, I discovered that most senior and experienced train drivers enjoyed and preferred the old days of British Rail (BR) to Train Operating Companies (TOCs). They serve in their role with a passion for doing their job. They are not motivated by money. As I said earlier on, everyone has their own motivations.
The question is, have you got the skill set to become a safe and successful train driver or at least to pass the assessments? This is where we come in. We believe everyone can learn a new skill, though some may be quicker in their learning. As long as you are willing to work hard towards your goals, you should, under normal circumstances, achieve them.
Do you remember the first time you learned something new that you are now a master of? That is the same approach you will need. For this reason, we disagree with the school of thought that argues that a person may never overcome a weakness if they have failed twice on the same thing. It has been proven in various walks of life that people can overcome their failures and weaknesses and become some of the most able and potent in their chosen field.
Read through our articles and recommended activities, and you will gradually develop the safety-conscious personality, concentration level, safety-critical communication and reaction skills required to pass the trainee train driver tests and interview questions. Remember to time yourself always.
Undoubtedly, practice will make you better and better. Do your best in the assessments and interview for the position of trainee train driver. I wish you the best with the assessments. May you do better on that day!
To your success,
The Training Team
